Rick Sanchez is the name of two fictional characters in the American animated television series, Rick and Morty. Rick Sanchez is voiced by Justin Roiland, and Rick Sanchez is voiced by Chris Parnell.

Rick Sanchez is the series’ main protagonist; he is a sociopathic, scientifically advanced, alcoholic mad scientist who travels the universe with his 14-year-old grandson Morty Smith. He created a portal gun that allows him to travel between dimensions at will.

In the episode “Close Rick-counters of the Rick Kind”, it is revealed that Rick’s surname “Sanchez” was given to him as an alias by his former partner Jerry Smith in order to hide their relationship from their families. In the same episode, it’s revealed that he had previously married and divorced Beth’s mother Tammy Gueterman before marrying Beth’s father, Jerry Smith.
