Hunter x Hunter is a great show. It’s one of the best shonen shows out there, and I would recommend it to anyone. However, it is not for children.
The main reason that Hunter X Hunter is rated MA is that the protagonist, Gon Freecss, is only 12 years old and has many mature themes throughout the series. The anime is more focused on Gon’s journey to become a Hunter rather than his fight against other characters in the series. This gives the story an episodic feel as each episode focuses on a different part of the world of hunters or a different character’s story arc.
However, there are many instances where Gon faces death or goes through tough situations that may not appeal to younger audiences — especially when he battles against stronger enemies in order to improve his skillset and become stronger himself.
While this isn’t necessarily a bad thing (although some parents may disagree), it does make this show unsuitable for children under 16 years old due to its mature themes and violent nature.
