Michael Phelps is a legend in the world of swimming. He holds an astounding 22 Olympic medals, including 18 golds, to go along with his numerous world records.
But as legendary as he is, there are still some things that people don’t know about him. Here are five things you probably didn’t know about Michael Phelps:
He’s a dog lover. Phelps has two dogs named Bella and Hank, who live with him in his Chicago home. He also has a Siberian husky named Rosie who lives in California with his mother and stepfather.
He has ADHD. In fact, he was diagnosed at age nine — before he even started swimming competitively — so it’s no surprise that ADHD runs in his family (his grandfather also had it). His symptoms include being “hyperactive” and having trouble focusing on tasks or activities that require patience or concentration; however, they’ve never affected him while swimming because he gets into “the zone” when he swims.
He can’t stand the sight of blood — but that doesn’t mean he’s afraid of getting injured or bleeding; it just makes him queasy at the thought of seeing someone else bleed or get injured during competition.
