Why Do Race Horses Tongues Hang Out?

The reason race horses’ tongues hang out is to help them breathe better. This is because they are often running at high speeds, and the wind can cause a lot of extra stress on their bodies.

As you can imagine, this can be very stressful for their lungs and respiratory system. To help reduce the impact of this stress, race horses have evolved to have a fairly large tongue that can be used as an extra air filter in order to help relieve some of this pressure on their bodies.

This isn’t something that only happens in horses either; many other animals have similar adaptations as well. For example, dolphins often use their entire bodies as air filters when they need to breath under water for long periods of time!
