Pugs are known for their love of licking, which is not uncommon among dogs. It’s possible that a pug’s excessive licking is related to its short muzzle, which means it has a hard time breathing through its nose.
Pugs are also prone to lolling, or tongue-flicking. This behavior can seem like the dog is trying to cool itself down, but it actually has more to do with boredom and stress than temperature regulation.
Licking may also be a way for your pug to get your attention or show you affection. If you’re getting annoyed by all the licking, try giving your pooch a treat every time he licks you and see if that doesn’t curb his habit
