There are many reasons why your lips stick out. They may be swollen, burned or injured, or you may have a condition such as puffy cheeks or an overbite. Serious cases that require treatment will be discussed below.
In many cases, however, the cause of your lip protrusion is benign and can be remedied with simple measures.
If the problem is caused by swelling, the swelling should subside within a few days. If the swelling persists longer than this or is accompanied by pain, it’s best to see your doctor. Swelling that persists beyond a few days could indicate an infection or other underlying cause that requires medical attention.
In some cases, lip protrusion may be caused by an injury or trauma to your mouth area. If this is the case, your lips will likely return to normal once the injury heals completely — although they may remain swollen for a while afterward.
