Why Do Calve Exercises Make Me Want To Poop ?

Calves are a very large muscle group, and they’re in a very awkward spot. They’re right behind your knee and not far above your ankle, but they don’t get a lot of blood flow — which means it’s difficult to get them warmed up and ready to work.

The best way to do this is with light weight and high reps, so that you can move through the full range of motion in a controlled manner. That will take some time to build up to, especially if you’ve never done calf-specific training before. But once you get there, you’ll be able to work on building strength without straining yourself or risking injury.

In the meantime, try doing calf raises with your toes on an elevated surface like a step or bench, or just do them in the seated position (just like one-legged squats). You should be able to feel the burn on these exercises when done correctly — but if it feels like too much, then stop and take a break before trying again.
