Naruto Sensei is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Masashi Kishimoto. It was serialized in Weekly Shōnen Jump from 1999 to 2014, with the chapters collected into 72 tankōbon volumes by Shueisha.
The story follows Naruto Uzumaki, an adolescent ninja who constantly searches for recognition and aspires to become a Hokage, the ninja in his village that is acknowledged as the leader and the strongest of all. The series is based on a one-shot comic by Kishimoto that was published in the August 1997 issue of Akamaru Jump.
The manga was adapted into an anime series produced by Studio Pierrot and Aniplex, which broadcast 220 episodes in Japan from 2002 to 2007. The English adaptation of the series aired on Cartoon Network’s Toonami programming block from 2005 to 2008, and was later released by Viz Media from 2009 to 2011.
Three movies were produced before the anime began airing: two original videos (OVAs) based on stories featured in the manga that were released in December 2000 and April 2003; and one feature film released in July 2004.
Viz Media has licensed the manga and anime for North America, while Madman Entertainment distributes both media.
