Gamora (born Gamora Zen Whoberi Ben Titan) is a fictional character, appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Created by Jim Starlin, the character first appeared in Strange Tales #180 (June 1975). Gamora is the daughter of Thanos and her only biological sibling, who was raised by Thanos to be his personal assassin. She has appeared as a supporting character in Guardians of the Galaxy since 2013.
Thanos created Gamora using his own cells, thus making her a clone of himself. Gamora trained to become a skilled warrior and assassin under his tutelage, becoming one of the most feared beings in the galaxy. She also served as an occasional ally to Thanos’ son, Thane; however, she eventually abandoned him after realizing that he had been corrupted by his father’s influence.
In recent years, Gamora became an associate of Peter Quill/Star-Lord and joined his team of superheroes known as the Guardians of the Galaxy. She has also been associated with other heroes such as Adam Warlock and Nova (Richard Rider).
Gamora’s origins are tied into those of her father Thanos: during an attack on Titan by Galactus, Thanos took advantage.
