The answer is the English willow.
The willow tree has been used to make cricket bats for centuries, and is still the most popular choice for batsmen today.
In fact, it was only in 1985 that a new type of wood — Kashmir willow — was approved by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for use as a cricket bat.
But it wasn’t because Kashmir willow was better than English willow — it’s just that there were no other suitable alternatives available at the time.
