The most common term used to refer to an abandoned match is “rain-affected”. This refers to a match which has been interrupted by rain or bad weather, and therefore cannot be completed.
A match that is abandoned due to rain does not count as one of the three scheduled matches that teams play each in a Test series. If, for example, one team has already played two matches before the third scheduled day of the third match is abandoned due to rain or bad weather, then that match will not be counted as part of the series.
The team which was leading in terms of points at the time of abandonment would be declared winner and no further matches would be required in order for them to retain their title as series champions.
