Gintama isn’t a series that follows a single story or even a single arc from start to finish. Instead, it’s a collection of stories with recurring characters and concepts that are tied together by being set in the same universe, with some overarching storylines. That means you can watch (and enjoy) Gintama at any point in the series without feeling like you’re missing anything crucial.

Gintama tells many different stories about different characters, so it’s difficult to say when it “gets good.” But if you want to know when Gintama started being good, it was probably around 2008.
