When a guy calls you mama, there are two types of reactions. Either you’re flattered, or you’re annoyed. If he calls you “mama” as in “sweetheart,” it’s a good sign that he’s feeling affectionate towards you. If he calls you “mama” as in “mommy,” it means that he sees you as old-fashioned and traditional and doesn’t want to be associated with that kind of person.
In most cases where someone calls a woman mama, the person is usually in their 30s or 40s and has been single for a long time (or never dated at all). In these cases, calling an older woman “mama” is more about familiarity than respect; the person may have known her since childhood or grown up with her family members. The term can also be used to mean “mom” or “mother.”
In some instances, calling an older woman mama could be considered insulting because it implies that she’s old-fashioned or traditional — this is usually the case when a younger man calls his girlfriend mama (although not always). But if she likes being called this way by her boyfriend or if they have similar interests
