What Was The First Theatre Play In Spain?

The first theatre play in Spain was written by Lope de Vega and performed in 1619. It is called “La Numancia” (The Numantia). This play has been adapted over the years by many directors and actors. The only key element that has remained the same is the setting: Numancia, an ancient city in Spain.

The play tells the story of a group of men who are trapped behind enemy lines while trying to escape from Numancia after it fell to an invading army. Their only goal is to survive until they can be rescued by their friends on horseback.

What makes this play unique is that it is one of very few plays written by a man who was not from England or France but from Spain itself.
