If you’re like most of us, you’ve got old wallets hanging around the house. They may be falling apart, or they might just be broken. Whatever the case, you need to get rid of them in a safe and responsible way.
The first thing to do is check for any sensitive information that’s inside. If there are credit cards or bank statements, shred them before throwing them away.
Next, remove any cash from your wallet and put it in a secure place where it can’t be easily stolen by someone who finds your old wallet.
If your wallet still has some value to it (such as coins or gift cards), take those out and either donate them or keep them for yourself.
If the wallet itself contains valuable materials (like leather), consider selling it at a used goods store or on eBay so you can recoup some of the money spent on it when you first bought it.
