The opposite of extension is flexion. Flexion is a movement that involves the bending of a joint or the curling of a part of your body.
In yoga, you often work with both extension and flexion to create balance in your body. For example, when you do downward dog or plank pose, you are extending your entire upper body through the arms and legs. In order to do this safely, you need to have strong core muscles as well as flexibility in your hips and shoulders.
Flexion is also an important part of many poses in yoga. For example, when you bend forward into cobra pose or downward facing dog, you are flexing the spine and stretching out your back muscles. This can help improve posture by increasing flexibility in the spine.
