The German men’s national team is known as one of the most successful teams in international basketball. They have won four Olympic gold medals (1936, 1968, 1972 and 1988), seven FIBA World Championships (1931, 1950, 1954, 1959, 1963, 1967 and 1974), one FIBA European Championship for Small Countries (1959), two EuroBaskets (1959 and 1961) and eight EuroCups (1959–65). The German women’s national team has not been as successful as its male counterpart, but it did take home two silver medals from two Olympic games: 1992 in Barcelona and 1996 at Atlanta.
