The heart of any ERP system is its data. A company’s data contains information about customers, suppliers and employees, as well as financial and other operational data used for management purposes.
There are two main types of ERP systems:
Mainframe-based ERP systems, which are relatively expensive and complex to implement. These systems often require a dedicated IT team to maintain them.
Client/server-based ERP systems, which are less expensive and easier to use than mainframe-based systems are. They usually run on the same hardware as other business applications such as word processing software or accounting software.
