This is a very simple example of multiplication. But, if we look at the bigger picture, it’s an important skill that we need to know in order to learn algebra.
Multiplication is one of the four basic operations in mathematics; addition, subtraction, division and multiplication. The other three operations are needed to find out how much something costs or how much something weighs. In addition, multiplication can be used for finding out how much something will cost when we want to buy more than one item at once.
Multiplication is also used for finding out how many times two numbers multiplied together equal another number (for example: 3 * 4 = 12). The term “multiplication” comes from “multi-” which means many and “-plication” which means making more than one thing into one thing – so several things become one big thing!
