Kenny G is an American saxophonist, who has sold over 75 million albums worldwide. He is known for his romantic smooth jazz and jazz fusion music. The Grammy-award winning artist has been playing the saxophone since the age of twelve.
Kenny G was born in Seattle, Washington on June 6th 1956 to his mother Janice Graham and stepfather Phillip Garlick. His grandmother played piano at church and his father played in a jazz band. His parents divorced when he was young and he moved with his mother to Los Angeles, California where he began taking lessons on the saxophone at age 12.
At 15 years old Kenny became serious about pursuing music as a career and dropped out of high school to pursue this goal full time. He later enrolled in the Los Angeles Conservatory of Music where he studied classical composition and orchestration along with jazz improvisation.
In 1982 Kenny released his first album “Duotones” which featured a mix of contemporary pop music along with some jazz standards such as “Fly Me To The Moon”. This album also included three tracks written by Kenny including “Silhouette”, which would become one of his most popular songs over time.
