Apple Music is a music and video streaming service developed by Apple Inc. Users select music to stream to their device on the web or in the Apple Music app, which can be downloaded for free on iOS and tvOS devices. The service also includes social features, such as sharing playlists and adding friends.
The service was launched on June 30, 2015, and expanded to Android devices in September 2015. The Apple Music app has been redesigned three times: iOS 10 (2017), iOS 11 (2017), and iOS 12 (2018).
Apple Music is an example of a freemium model: it is free to download and use limitedly, but a subscription is required for full functionality.
During development of iOS 10 and tvOS 10, a new version of the Music app was unveiled at WWDC 2016 with a new design that emphasized artist pages over albums; these changes were implemented one month later with the release of iOS 10.4 on July 13, 2016.
On September 13, 2016, Apple announced that they would be releasing the official version of Apple Music for Android. The Android version was released on November 16, 2016. On December 5th 2018 it was announced that Apple would no longer allow users.
