When you step in dog poop, it means that you have been “had.” Dog feces are the most common source of fecal bacteria. The bacteria can cause many different types of infections and diseases in humans.
The best way to prevent getting sick from dog poop is to avoid stepping in it. If you accidentally step in dog poop, wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds before eating or drinking anything else.
In addition to washing your hands, wash your shoes as soon as possible after stepping in dog feces because the bacteria can spread through your shoes and onto other objects close by (such as carpet).
