You can use pretty much anything as a guitar pick. For example, many people use coins, bottle caps, and credit cards. A string of beads can also work if you’re playing an acoustic guitar with heavy strings.
If you’re looking for something more durable, there are several options that are specifically designed for guitar playing:
Guitar picks made of metal (usually steel) are the most common type of pick. They’re easy to find at music stores and online retailers. They’re also very affordable — some cost less than a dollar!
Some people prefer plastic or wood picks because they have more grip than metal ones. This makes it easier to hold onto the pick while playing fast passages on a tremolo-equipped electric guitar.
The downside is that these materials wear down quickly and don’t sound as bright as metal picks do when plucked.
