In The Long Dark, bears can be killed with a single shot to the head or neck.

You can also kill a bear with two shots to the torso (one in the head and one in the torso), but this will take more time than just stabbing it with a knife or axe.

Bear attacks are pretty rare in The Long Dark, but if you do find yourself face-to-face with one, here’s how you should handle it:

If you see a bear at a distance, avoid it as much as possible. Bears are shy creatures and will usually run away when they see humans. If you must cross its path, make lots of noise so that it knows you’re there — shout “Hey bear!” or clap your hands together loudly.

If you see one up close, try to scare it off by waving your arms or shouting “Hey bear!” If this doesn’t work, back away slowly until it leaves — don’t turn your back on it!
