Is A Crawl Space Safe During A Tornado?

A safe room is a room that can protect its occupants from external threats, such as severe weather, tornadoes, and earthquakes.

A safe room can be built into an existing structure or added as an afterthought. The main purpose of a safe room is to protect those inside from flying debris, such as broken glass and tree limbs, along with other threats such as floods and strong winds.

Some safe rooms are in the basement or ground floor of a home while others are specially built above ground to resemble an ordinary storage closet.

There are many different types of safe rooms available depending on the severity of the threat. A tornado shelter is designed to withstand high winds and flying debris while an earthquake shelter has walls that can absorb shaking without crumbling like regular walls do during an earthquake.

Safe rooms have been used for hundreds of years by people living in dangerous areas where tornadoes or hurricanes are common occurrences. Houses built before the 20th century often had basements that served as storm shelters during bad weather events but modern houses don’t always have them because builders don’t believe they’re needed anymore since tornadoes have decreased in frequency over time due to climate change.
