Whataburger is a chain of fast food restaurants in the Southern United States. In addition to its flagship restaurant in Corpus Christi, Texas, the company has over 735 locations across the Southeastern, Southwestern and Midwestern United States.

In 1961, Harmon Dobson and Paul Burton opened the first Whataburger as a small roadside burger stand in Corpus Christi, Texas. The first location was closed in 1989 and relocated to an indoor shopping mall.

The chain’s signature product is the “Whataburger,” a burger consisting of a quarter-pound (4 oz) patty made with 100% beef (not any other meat), mustard-cooked on an open grill. The original recipe included cheese sauce and grilled onions on top of the burger patty.

The current Whataburger recipe does not include cheese sauce or grilled onions; however both condiments are available as toppings at most locations. Other products include breakfast tacos (served all day) and taquitos which are similar to burritos but much smaller with only one tortilla wrap instead of two or three tortillas wrapped around various fillings such as scrambled eggs, refried beans, bacon, sausage links or shredded chicken breast meat; these items are served at all times except breakfast hours at some.
