After a fight, you can’t go back to where you were before. You have to take it from the beginning and move forward.
The first step is to give him time to cool off, then ask him what happened. If he can’t tell you himself, then ask him questions like: “Did I do something wrong?” or “What did I do wrong?” Or “What caused this?”
When he starts to talk about his feelings, listen and try not to interrupt. If he’s trying to make excuses for his behavior, just let him finish speaking. Don’t argue with him or defend yourself at this point because it will only make things worse. Instead say something like “I understand how you feel” or “I get that this is hard.”
Be patient and let him know that you’re there if he needs anything else.
