The best way to learn skateboarding is to just go out and do it. The more you practice, the better you’ll get at it.
Here are some tips on how to improve:
Work on your balance. Balance is essential for skateboarding, and you can’t have good balance if you don’t have good control over your body. Try standing on one foot while holding a book out in front of you with your arms straight and locked at the elbows. Hold that position for as long as possible without losing your balance or letting the book touch the ground. If this exercise is too easy, try doing it with your eyes closed or while walking on a balance beam.
Practice riding up to things (such as stair rails). This will help you learn how to ride up curbs, which can be very difficult when first starting out.
Learn how to control your speed by moving your feet backward and forward on the board—this is called “walking” or “scuffing.” You should also practice riding up hills with no hands on the handlebars (this improves balance).
