The Power button on the iPhone X, iPhone 8, and iPhone 8 Plus is used to power off your phone. It’s also a shortcut to turn off or restart your iPhone.
In addition, you can use this button as a quick way to force-quit an app in iOS 11 and earlier. This is especially useful when an app crashes or freezes and you need to get out of it quickly.
To turn off your iPhone using the Power button:
Press and hold the Power button until “slide to power off” appears on the screen. Slide left across the screen with one finger.
If you’re using an iPhone 7 or earlier model, press and hold down on the Home button until you see “slide to power off.” Slide left across the screen with one finger while holding down on Home Button.
