If you and your incarcerated spouse want to conceive a child, the first thing you’ll need to do is talk with the prison staff. They may have some suggestions on how you can get pregnant while your spouse is behind bars, and they may also have information about special visitation policies for pregnant inmates.

The second step is to figure out if there are any fertility treatments available at the facility. If so, be sure to take advantage of them as soon as possible. It’s important that you start trying for a baby as soon as possible because time is not on your side — there are many reasons why it’s best for you not to wait until after your partner gets out of prison before trying for a family.

You may be able to get pregnant while he’s locked up but it might not be easy or cheap. If he has less than two years left on his sentence, then it’s worth it because he will be home before the baby gets here. If he has more than two years left on his sentence, then it’s probably not worth it since he won’t be home until after the baby gets here anyway and by then he will probably only have visiting privileges every other weekend or something like that.
