There are a few ways to start private races in GTA 5. You can do this either by starting your own race, or finding one being run by someone else.

The simplest way is to go to the “races” section of your phone and select “race creation.” Then you’ll be able to set up a private race with any of your friends on the same system. This will work across all platforms, so you can even play with people on PS4 or Xbox One if they’re on your Crew list.

Alternatively, if you want to find a public race, go to the “races” section of your phone and select either “upcoming” or “active.” This will show you all of the current races taking place around Los Santos and Blaine County. You can choose whichever one takes your fancy and join it as an observer (or player).
