The most common solution for cleaning dirty pool balls is to use a mild dish washing detergent and water. This method is effective for many types of stains, including dirt, rust and mold.
To clean yellowed pool balls, first make sure that the balls are completely dry. If they are not, soak them in water until they are. Then mix together 1/3 cup of baking soda, 1/3 cup of vinegar and 1 gallon of warm water in a bucket or other container that will hold all of your dirty billiard balls.
Put the yellowed billiard balls into the bucket and allow them to soak overnight or for several hours. You may need to scrub each ball with a toothbrush or other small brush if they have stubborn stains on them. Blow off any loose material before allowing the balls to dry completely.
If your pool table is outdoors, you may want to cover it with plastic sheeting so that it does not get wet when playing in the rain or snow. Make sure that you have plenty of fresh air circulating around your outdoor table so that moisture does not build up underneath it from condensation on either side of the cloth coverings over the pockets where balls go into play when not sunk into their corresponding holes.
