To change the spark plugs on a 2008 Chevy Impala, you will need a 10 mm wrench, an 8 mm wrench, a socket wrench and socket set, an extension bar and ratchet to remove the upper intake manifold.
First, you need to remove the lower intake manifold in order to access the top of the engine. The lower intake manifold is located directly underneath the throttle body. You need to remove two bolts from the throttle body and unbolt one bolt from each cylinder head. Once these bolts are removed, pull off the lower manifold so that you can see all of your spark plugs.
Next, disconnect your battery cables and make sure that you have adequate lighting for this project. Remove each spark plug wire by pulling up on it until it pops out of its socket. Set them aside in an organized manner so that you don’t mix them up later when putting them back on correctly.
Now remove all 17 spark plugs using either a ratchet or socket wrench with an extension bar attached to it (depending on how long your arms are). Take note of how many turns each plug requires before it comes out because some may be harder than others due to carbon buildup around them (which means more turns).
