The third brake light is a small light that is usually located on the rear of the trunk lid. The third brake light comes in handy when you need to alert other drivers that your vehicle has been parked in an emergency situation. You can find this light under the rear bumper cover, just behind your license plate. You will need to remove the cover in order to access it. This may require removing some screws or clips from underneath the bumper cover. Once they are removed, you should be able to see where they came from and how they were attached.

Once you’ve removed the screws or clips that held down the bumper cover, gently lift up on it until it pops off of its mounts (if applicable). You should then be able to see where your third brake light is located and how it was attached to your vehicle’s frame.

Once you have located both ends of your third brake light, simply disconnect them from each other by pushing them together with your fingers or pulling them apart with pliers.
