As with most craft stores, Walmart has a wide variety of fabrics available. While many of the fabrics are sold by the bolt, there are also smaller quantities available for those who want to make smaller projects.
One of the first things to consider when looking for fabric is what type of project you will be using it for. Some fabrics are better suited for certain applications than others and even within categories there can be major differences in quality. For example, if you’re making curtains or a tablecloth you probably don’t need something as heavy duty as what you would use to make a sofa cover or bedspread. The weight of the fabric is important because too light a fabric won’t hold up well over time and too heavy may be hard to work with on small projects like pillows or curtains.
Color is another consideration when purchasing fabric. If you’re making something like curtains or draperies that will be seen from across an entire room, then color choice becomes very important in determining how they look in different lighting conditions throughout the day and night. For smaller projects like pillows and throws, color isn’t as important but still needs to be considered since there are many different types of dye processes used by manufacturers today.
