3 slices of bacon has 18 grams of protein. That’s more than a quarter of the daily value for protein, which is 46 grams for men and women over 19.
Bacon is also high in saturated fat (4 grams per slice), sodium (1,000 milligrams) and cholesterol (45 milligrams). Bacon can be higher in sodium if it’s cooked in water or broth instead of oil, according to the American Heart Association.
Protein helps build muscle mass, aids digestion, improves immune function and helps keep you feeling full longer than other macronutrients such as carbohydrates or fats do.
If you’re looking for more sources of protein, try adding eggs to your breakfast routine or swapping out white bread for a whole-wheat baguette at lunchtime.
