How Many Sit Ups To Lose A Pound?

The sit up is the most common exercise for strengthening the abdominal muscles. There are two types: crunches and sit-ups.

The crunch is performed by lying on your back with knees bent, feet flat on the floor, hands behind your head or on your ears. Tighten your abs, exhale and slowly lift your upper body off the floor until you feel a gentle pull in your abdomen. Return to starting position by slowly lowering yourself down.

For a sit up, lie flat on your back with knees bent, feet flat on the floor and hands behind head or resting at sides of body (on chest). Tighten abs and exhale as you lift hips off floor until torso is upright (not leaning forward). Return to starting position by slowly lowering hips until they are slightly above floor again.
