How many matches are played in the World Cup 2022?
The 2022 World Cup will be held in Qatar, with 64 matches scheduled to take place across 21 cities. The first match will take place on November 21, 2022 and the final is scheduled for December 18.
This year’s tournament saw 64 matches played over 32 days across 12 cities in Russia.
The 2022 World Cup will be the first one to feature 48 teams rather than 32, meaning that matches will be played over a longer period of time than usual.
The host nation will automatically qualify for the tournament and they’ll also play at least one match at home (the opening game). There will be six groups of four teams each playing two games against each other – one at home and one away – before moving into a knockout stage where there are eight last-16 games followed by two quarter-finals, four semi-finals and then the final itself.
