Powdered sugar is a fine powder made by grinding granulated sugar into a powder. It comes in a variety of colors, including white, brown and confectioners’ (powdered) sugar. Powdered sugar should not be confused with icing or confectioner’s sugar, which are different types of sugars used for baking purposes.
There are two types of powdered sugar: 10X and 12X. 12X has more air incorporated into it so it dissolves faster than 10X when added to hot drinks like coffee or tea. It also dissolves more quickly in cold liquids like lemonade or iced tea than 10X does.
If you prefer fine-ground powdered sugar, you can make your own by placing granulated white sugar in the bowl of a food processor fitted with the metal blade attachment and pulsing until finely ground (about 30 seconds).
