A 5 gallon bucket is a popular size for water storage and is the most common size in the US. The number of cubic feet in a 5 gallon bucket depends on the type of material it is made from.
The most common types of 5 gallon buckets are made out of either HDPE or polypropylene. HDPE is a high-density polyethylene plastic that can be used for temperatures from -40 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit (-40 to 60 Celsius). This type of plastic also has a higher impact resistance than polypropylene.
Polypropylene is used for temperatures from -50 to 145 degrees Fahrenheit (-45 to 63 Celsius). Polypropylene does not have as high an impact resistance as HDPE but it does have better chemical resistance and it’s more flexible than HDPE.
So if you want your bucket to last longer, choose one that is made from HDPE instead of polypropylene!
