In a perfect world, we’d all have one bathroom for each person in our household. But in reality, many of us have to make do with just one or two bathrooms.
Fortunately, there’s a simple rule of thumb that can help you figure out whether your house has enough bathrooms: Each person needs one-half bath per day. (That’s half a bathtub, toilet and sink.) If you have more than one child and they share a bedroom, you’ll need more than one-half bath per day.
For example, if you have four people in your household who use the same bathroom on a daily basis — say two adults and two kids — then you need three full baths (one for each adult plus one for each kid). If you want to add another adult or kid to the mix, then you’ll need an additional full bath — or two half baths instead of one full bath — as well.
If your home doesn’t have enough bathrooms for the number of people who live there, it can lead to some uncomfortable situations: People may wait until no one else is in the bathroom before taking care of their business; someone might go outside instead of using the toilet inside; family members might hold it until they get.
