I’m a professional painter and I’ve been using epoxy floor coating for years. I have one customer who says that his garage still smells strongly of epoxy even though he’s had it done 3 weeks ago. He says it’s making him sick. Is this possible? What could be causing this?
First, let me say that I’m not an expert on epoxy coatings so I can’t tell you exactly what is causing the smell. But I do know that there are several things that can affect how long a coating will take to cure and harden properly. Here are some things to consider:
Temperature: Epoxies tend to cure faster at warmer temperatures. This means that if you’re working in an unheated garage in the dead of winter, then your epoxy may take longer than usual to cure.
Humidity: Humidity can also affect how long it takes for your epoxy to cure properly. In general, the lower the humidity, the faster an epoxy will cure (although there are exceptions). If you’re working in a humid environment, then it may take longer for your floor coating to dry completely – which could lead to more odor problems down the road.
