Acrylic nails are a form of artificial nail enhancement, made from a combination of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), an acrylic polymer, and pigments. They are an alternative to natural nails and other artificial nail products. Acrylic nails are generally applied with a powder base coat, liquid base coat, two-step curing light and top coat. Nails can also be applied using Polycrylic polish or gelish polish for added strength and shine.
The average length of time for a set of acrylic nails to grow out is about two weeks. The reason for this is that acrylics tend to weaken the natural nail bed by adhering to it instead of growing from it. The end result is that your natural nails will grow out faster than they normally would if you didn’t have any enhancements on them at all.
My recommendation is that you visit your local salon every two weeks so they can maintain your nails properly by filing them down and putting new tips on them every time you come in for a fill because if you try to do it yourself at home, you run the risk of damaging your natural nails even further by cutting off too much product or breaking off pieces
