A horse can swim just as fast as a human being can walk. It’s not a question of whether or not a horse can swim, but rather how fast it can swim.
Horses are generally very good swimmers, and they tend to be more comfortable in water than on land. But every horse is different and some may not enjoy swimming at all.
The average person can walk at about 4 miles per hour (6 kilometers per hour), which is roughly the same speed that a horse walks when pulling a wagon or carriage on dry land. A horse’s maximum speed when trotting or galloping depends on its size and training. The average racehorse can reach speeds of up to 40 miles per hour (64 kilometers per hour).
