I have been using a CPAP machine for over 12 years now. I have taken it with me on vacations and to hotels when traveling. It has never been stolen, nor has anyone ever tried to steal it.
I have never had any problems with my insurance company or Medicare covering the cost of the machine or supplies.
The only time I have ever had an issue with Medicare was when they insisted that I must see a pulmonologist before they would pay for the prescription for my CPAP machine. This made no sense to me because my primary care doctor had prescribed the machine and I trusted her judgment as well as her knowledge about how it worked for me. When I told them this, they finally agreed to accept my primary care physician’s recommendation after being told that she was also a pulmonologist (which she was not).
I think the reason why most people are afraid of having their CPAP machine stolen is because they think someone might try to kill them while they are sleeping if they know they have a CPAP machine in their room!
