If you use the official charging cable that came with your PS4, the LED light on the controller will turn red when it’s in charging mode. If you have a third-party charging cable, there will be no indication other than the fact that it’s plugged into a power source and connected to your console.
You can also tell if your controller is charging by looking at its battery life in the system menu. If you see a lightning bolt icon next to your controller, it means it’s currently being charged. If there’s no lightning bolt icon next to your controller, then it isn’t currently being charged.
