Makar and Maka are best friends, soulmates, and partners in crime. They’re also each other’s source of comfort and support when things get tough. Their bond is so strong that even after Maka gets engaged to Crona, she can’t bring herself to leave Makar. In fact, she rushes back and forth between the two men for years before finally making a choice about who she wants to be with.
Although it’s clear that she loves both men, her feelings for them are different. She loves Makar because he’s kind and gentle with her; he’s always been there for her when she needed him most. However, he doesn’t make her heart flutter or give her butterflies like Crona does. He is basically the brother she never had — someone who loves her unconditionally without expecting anything in return.
On the other hand, Crona is the type of guy who makes women swoon: handsome with a great sense of humor, as well as being intelligent and willing to put in effort if it means getting closer to Maka (even if it means going against Lord Death). From the moment they meet on the battlefield until the day they say their vows at the church altar, Maka can barely keep her eyes off Crona.
