Do Hammocks Hurt Trees?

Hammocks don’t hurt trees. In fact, they can actually help trees by reducing the amount of wind and water stress on them.

Hammocks are typically hung from a tree branch or two. To make sure your hammock doesn’t kill your favorite tree, you should hang it in a way that keeps its weight off the trunk. When hanging a hammock from a single branch, make sure to place it over an area where there are no other branches growing out of that spot.

It’s also important to keep in mind which type of tree you’re hanging from when choosing where to put your hammock. For example, an oak tree is better suited for a hammock than an evergreen would be because oaks have wide trunks that can support heavy weights without buckling under pressure.
