Brazil has won the FIFA World Cup a record five times. The Selecao are the only team to have appeared in every World Cup since its inception in 1930. But as they prepare to host the tournament for the first time since 1950, there are questions about whether they can become world champions again.

The Brazilian squad is in transition after failing to qualify for last year’s tournament in Russia, where they were beaten 7-1 by Germany in the semifinal.

Their new coach, Tite, has rebuilt the team with players from other countries and changed their style of play from the traditional Brazilian “jogo bonito” (beautiful game) to a more pragmatic approach.

But their new style hasn’t been tested on the international stage, something that could be a problem when they compete for top honors later this year against teams like France, Germany, and Spain.
