One way to measure a distance is in blocks. A block is the length of the side of a square that has been dug out of the ground. The length of blocks varies depending on the type of soil and can be anywhere between 1-3 feet.
In general, 100 yards is equal to 10 blocks (or 100 feet).
It’s important to note that not all blocks are exactly the same size as each other. For example, if you were walking along a sidewalk and wanted to know how far it was from one end of it to another, you would use different blocks for each measurement depending on where you placed your foot on the sidewalk.
In this case, however, we’re talking about measuring long distances such as football fields or city blocks, so I’m going to assume that we’re only talking about one type of block here.
